Thank you for visiting the CovidX website (“the website,” “the site”). CovidX, a Luminary Labs initiative, respects the privacy of our visitors and will not sell any information collected on the website.

This Privacy Policy will walk you through our handling of information that we collect from or about you when you visit our website. We will clearly explain what we collect, how we use it, and when and with whom we share it.

An outline of topics covered:

By visiting this site, you are agreeing to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

1. Information Collection

Luminary Labs may collect personally identifiable information about you (“your information,” “personal information.”) This information may be provided directly or collected automatically.

It is not the intent of Luminary Labs to collect—and this website is not designed to solicit—personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13. If you are under the age of 13, you should not use this website.

Information you provide directly

Visitors who sign up for the CovidX Digest will be asked to provide the following personally identifiable information:

  • Email address
  • Name

By signing up for the CovidX Digest, you permit Luminary Labs to send you emails using the personally identifiable information provided. You also acknowledge that we may use or share your provided information as outlined in this Privacy Policy. You may opt out of any future contacts from us at any time by unsubscribing from the CovidX Digest. CovidX Digest communications are managed through Mailchimp (mailchimp.com). Please see the Mailchimp Privacy Policy for further information on data use and storage (https://mailchimp.com/legal/privacy/).

Information we collect automatically

Web activity

Luminary Labs may collect information about how you view the website in order to better understand website performance and improve the site. During your visit, web services will record information that may include but is not limited to:

  • The internet domain for your internet service
  • The type of browser that you are using
  • The type of operating system that you are using
  • The date and time you visit our site, and your activity on the site
  • The address of the previous website you were visiting, if you arrived at our site via a link from another website
  • The city, state, and or country you are browsing from

Like many websites, our site uses “cookie” technology to collect the website activity data listed above. When you visit any website, its server may generate a piece of text known as a “cookie” to place on your computer. Placing cookie text allows websites to “remember” visitors’ preferences, surfing patterns, and behavior while they are connected.

There are two types of cookies, single session (session) and multi-session (persistent). Session cookies last only as long as your web browser is open. Once you close your browser, the cookie disappears. Persistent cookies are stored on your computer for longer periods. If you do not wish to have session or persistent cookies stored on your machine, you can opt out or disable cookies in your browser.

Luminary Labs uses a third-party analytics provider (Google Analytics) to analyze the data collected through the session and persistent cookies. The third-party analytics provider does not receive personally identifiable information through these cookies and does not combine, match, or cross-reference site information with any other information. Please see the Google Analytics Terms of Service for more information on their Privacy Policy (https://www.google.com/analytics/terms/us.html).

2. Information Use

Luminary Labs will only use your provided and collected information for the following purposes:

  • To send emails to CovidX Digest subscribers
  • To conduct analysis to improve the user experience of the CovidX website
  • To better understand our site visitors and improve the relevance of site content
  • To, occasionally, contact you about CovidX or Luminary Labs activities (We will do our best to keep these communications to a minimum.)
  • Luminary Labs will not sell your data.

3. Information Sharing

Luminary Labs works with trusted partners to perform certain activities and services. We may, in limited circumstances, share your information with our partners for the purpose of accomplishing those activities and services. Luminary Labs will work to ensure that partners do not use your data beyond the outlined purposes and do not sell your data.

We may also share your information with outside parties when legally compelled to do so. This may include government entities or third parties in response to subpoenas, court orders, or other legal processes.

Should Luminary Labs be sold, acquired or merged with another entity, all of its assets, including your personally identifiable information, will be transferred to the new entity and therefore be subject to a new Privacy Policy.

4. Information Security

Luminary Labs takes appropriate measures to secure and protect the privacy of your information. All information will be housed on the secure servers of Luminary Labs’ data storage provider. These servers are protected with generally available security technologies, including firewalls and data encryption. However, as no method of storing data is completely secure, we cannot guarantee that your information will never be accessed or used in a manner that is inconsistent with this Privacy Policy.

5. Third Party Links, Sites, and Services

The site may contain links to third-party websites, services, or other events or activities that are not owned or controlled by Luminary Labs. Luminary Labs does not endorse or assume any responsibility for any such third-party sites, information, materials, products, or services. If you access a third-party website from our site, you do so at your own risk and you expressly relieve Luminary Labs from any and all liability arising from your use of any third-party website, service, or content.

6. International Visitors

If you are visiting the site from outside of the United States, you consent to the collection, use, and storage of your information in the United States, where the data protection and other laws might be different from those in your country.

7. Updates to Privacy Policy

From time to time, we may make updates to our privacy policy. When this is the case, we will post a new Privacy Policy to the site with an updated date at the top of the page. We advise you to check the Privacy Policy if you have any questions or concerns about the use of your information.
